Description
The IN-12A and IN-12B are classic glow discharge indicator tubes (Nixie tubes) designed for visual display of numerical data in digital form. They are widely used in retro clocks, measuring devices, and design projects where their iconic orange glow stands out.
Key features
- displays digits 0–9 using individual cathodes
- distinctive warm orange Nixie glow
- ideal for DIY electronics, clocks, and retro-style projects
Difference between versions
- IN-12A – displays digits 0–9 only (no decimal point)
- IN-12B – includes an additional decimal point (comma)
Both versions are fully compatible in terms of wiring and usage, differing only by the presence of the decimal point.
Technical specifications
- discharge ignition voltage: approx. 170 V
- typical supply voltage: up to 200–250 V DC
- digit current: approx. 2–3.5 mA
- recommended average cathode current: max. 2 mA
Applications
IN-12 tubes were originally designed for displaying electrical signals in digital form in measuring and radio equipment. Today, they are popular in:
- Nixie clocks
- voltmeters and frequency counters
- retro and design electronics projects
Important notice
- A current-limiting resistor must always be connected to the anode.
- Operating without it may cause arcing and permanent damage to the tube.
- These tubes operate at high voltage (approx. 170–200 V DC) and are intended for users with basic electronics knowledge.
